I’d like to introduce you to my family—my two resident cats and one guest. Oh, here they are, they’ve come to meet you.
Eewaa?
Ooo, this is Mittens, the half-Siamese chocolate point with a midline. Isn’t she divine? I’ve been taking care of her on my friends’ behalf for more than a year. I just adopted her late January. And if only because of that, I know that 2009 is an auspicious year, I don’t care what the economists say.

Mittens: I love eating plastic!
Come and stroke her. Doesn’t she just have the softest, silkiest fur? And look how expressive her eyes are! You can tell she’s a natural-born actress. See that half-smile she’s wearing? And that eager, expectant look? Don’t let her trick you into giving her more treats to eat. She’s got a real knack for looking devastatingly cute. And she’ll shimmy her tail, too. All for food. Hey, just between you and me, she’s a tad overweight. But oh, still so beautiful. Everyone’s shocked when they find out that she’s already 14 years old! Doesn’t look a day over two.
Meeewwweeeeiiuuuueeee
Here’s Sammy, the boy. He’s the guest feline. Arrived in February. My friend left him with me when she moved to Arizona. She can’t keep cats in her new place. Sammy will be going to his new home soon. In less than a month.

Sammy: Playing hooky
Now, isn’t it funny the way Sammy squeaks and squeals? I mean he’s this tough, macho cat—he’s always getting into fights and bullying other cats— but he mewls like he thinks he’s a kitten. More like a rusty wagon wheel, I’d say. With one spoke missing. He’s nine chronologically, but a 6-month old kitten at heart. Pretty boy kitty.

Sammy's conked out
Don’t you agree that he’s quite the stud? Such a handsome face. Beautiful gray-and-white markings. What I call the glammed up version of your basic, short-haired, mixed-breed domestic. You notice his eyes? He looks like he’s wearing permanent eye liner. Makes his eyes pop out, doesn’t it? Wonder how much the make-up job cost him?
Aow! Aow! Aow! Aow! Aow!

Oh now, we can’t keep her waiting! This is Lydia. Gorgeous, isn’t she? Don’t you just love her longish, lustrous, fur? All white. Almost like fake fur. And the plumed tail. Dashing little cat, she is. Flew in from Denver to my new home in Silicon Valley in mid-February. I adopted her because her previous guardian, a former roommate of mine, was forced to give her up. She’s moving to another state with her boyfriend, who’s severely allergic to cats. A real dilemma, isn’t it?
Lydia’s a real sweetheart—and yet another reason I know that this is a year of abundance and prosperity. I went from no cats to two cats. Doubled my happiness quotient.
What was that? Oh, you’re wondering why Lydia is kind of zig-zagging around and bumping her nose into everything.
>Bonnnngggg< Oops, she hit the space heater this time. Don’t worry, though. She never hurts herself. She’s got this odd little gait cause she’s holding herself back a bit as she walks. So she doesn’t hit things too hard. See (ironic!), she’s blind. You’re right, that’s why she’s got that kind of blank, unfocused look on her face.

But hey, she doesn’t consider herself hadicapped in the least. And she isn’t, she’s absolutely fab! She’s the most “capped” cat I know! (Don’t ask me what that means, I just made it up.) She’s perfectly capable and competent at wriggling herself into your lap. See? Now she’s all a-purr.
Watch how her eyes go from the prettiest shade of pale blue to a reddish hue depending on the light. Oh, look at that, she’s got her tongue sticking out again. It’s cause she’s lost quite a few teeth. It’s just easy for her tongue to hang out. Isn’t she just adorable?
Lydia seems young, but she isn’t. Her estimated age is 11. She was about two when her previous guardian adopted her.
Isn’t it funny how all three cats ended up congregating here around the same time. Never expected this. After my black cat Saki died, I didn’t want another cat. Not for a while. I was grieving. No cat would be Saki. For 10 long years, she kept me anchored. After she died, I sort of drifted from place to place. Foot loose, but not exactly fancy free.
So now here I am, settling down in my new home. With two new-old cats, one human buddy “J.” And a whole new life.
I never planned it this way. Who knew?
Well, it was very kind of you to stop by. I’m so happy you were able to meet my cats!
And please—don’t be a stranger. Come visit often!
